Who this support is for

For compliance, medical, commercial and market access teams in pharmaceutical and biotech companies operating in the UK, from a first ABPI Code induction for a growing biotech to a refresh of an established global programme.

Why checkbox training fails

Generic e-learning struggles with complex content, information overload and relevance to each role. People complete the module but still do not know who owns a decision, when to escalate or how the Code applies to the material or meeting in front of them. We design training around those decisions.

From requirements to action

What you receive

Depending on the agreed scope, deliverables can include:

  • A training needs analysis mapped to roles, activities and markets.
  • Tailored modules covering the agreed ABPI Code, ABAC, HCP engagement, materials review, disclosure or SOP topics.
  • Practical scenarios and PMCPA case discussions delivered through classroom, virtual, e-learning or blended formats.
  • Training records and agreed measures of effectiveness to inform future refreshes.

Choose training around the team's work

Training is tailored for compliance, medical, commercial and market access teams in pharmaceutical and biotech companies. We agree the modules and delivery format around the decisions each role makes and the policies and systems it uses.

Learning built around the work

Role-based training pathways and practical outcomes

These examples draw on our role-based compliance training matrix. They are starting points for a tailored programme; we agree the learning depth, delivery format and scope around your teams’ responsibilities.

Commercial teams: HCP interactions and meetings

Practise a customer interaction or event-planning decision. Identify the approved material, missing engagement evidence and the point at which to escalate.

Practice outcome: Explain the decision, locate the relevant procedure and identify the records to retain.

Marketing, agencies and reviewers: materials review

Work through a submission, its claims and references, then compare review comments. Adapt the exercise to the learner’s channel and review responsibilities.

Practice outcome: Prepare a complete submission or explain a review decision and resolve conflicting comments.

Compliance and business owners: risk and exceptions

Evaluate an exception, consider the control gap and identify who owns the decision and follow-up. Connect the discussion to governance and ABAC responsibilities.

Practice outcome: Document the rationale, conditions, owner and escalation route.

Finance and operational teams: records and hand-offs

Trace a payment towards disclosure, or route an incomplete workflow request. Focus on recipient data, reconciliation, responsibilities and preserving the history.

Practice outcome: Identify missing evidence and make the next hand-off traceable.

A sample scenario workshop

Our effective training guide focuses on applying knowledge to real decisions. A suggested session sequence is:

  1. Identify the decision and the company procedure that applies.
  2. Work through a realistic example and compare the team’s reasoning.
  3. Agree the evidence, escalation route and follow-up learning needed.

Use our PMCPA case library to explore topics such as social media, certification and prescribing information. Read the linked official case report before drawing conclusions; each ruling depends on its facts and applicable Code.

The rules in the UK

What shapes compliance training in the UK…

UK pharmaceutical training obligations come from the industry code and from anti-bribery and fraud guidance. These are the main frameworks we design training around. Each summary links to its official source below.

ABPI Code, Clause 9: Training

All relevant personnel, including representatives, staff and contractors involved in preparing or approving material or activities covered by the Code, must be fully conversant with the Code and the relevant laws and regulations. Representatives must pass an appropriate accredited examination within two years of starting in the role.

Bribery Act guidance, Principle 5

The Ministry of Justice guidance on adequate procedures expects bribery prevention policies and procedures to be embedded and understood through communication, including training, proportionate to the risks the organisation faces.

Failure to prevent fraud guidance

The ECCTA 2023 guidance sets out six principles: top level commitment, risk assessment, proportionate risk-based prevention procedures, due diligence, communication (including training), and monitoring and review.

Pharmaceutical Compliance Training FAQs

Does the ABPI Code require compliance training?

Yes. Clause 9.1 of the 2024 ABPI Code requires all relevant personnel, including contractors, involved in preparing or approving material or activities covered by the Code to be fully conversant with the Code and the relevant laws and regulations. Clause 9.4 requires representatives to pass an appropriate accredited examination within two years of starting in the role.

Can the training be tailored to our teams?

Yes. Training can be adapted by role, market, process and system, and delivered in classroom, virtual, e-learning or blended formats with effectiveness measures.

What do we receive from a compliance training engagement?

Depending on the agreed scope, support can include a training needs analysis, role-based modules, practical scenarios, delivery, training records and agreed effectiveness measures. The programme connects to your policies, SOPs and the activities your teams carry out.

What makes compliance training effective?

Content tailored to each role’s real decisions, scenarios and case studies rather than only e-learning, short focused modules, and measures that show whether behaviour changes, not just completion rates.

Do you use real PMCPA cases?

Yes. Scenario-based sessions grounded in real rulings help teams see how role clarity, escalation and cross-functional accountability work in practice.

Is anti-bribery training part of adequate procedures?

The Ministry of Justice guidance on the Bribery Act 2010 lists communication, including training, as one of six principles of adequate procedures, proportionate to the risks the organisation faces.

Which compliance training modules do you offer?

Modules include the ABPI Code of Practice, anti-bribery and anti-corruption, HCP and HCO engagement, hospitality and fair market value, materials review and certification, transparency and disclosure, and policy and SOP roll-out. Each can be tailored by role, market and system.

Do you train teams outside the UK?

Yes. Training can be mapped to the codes and markets each role works under, with input from our local compliance partners across Europe and other regions.
